24 Hour Vehicle lights on the Way
British motorists will be driving with their headlamps on day and night within 10 years after a new Europe-wide agreement that will allow only cars with permanent "lights on" to be sold. The move, from the Cars 21 Group of Euro motor industry chiefs and civil servants, is the final part of a deal to bring the big switch-on to the Continent by 2015. Formal proposals for EU member states will come next year. The plan is intended to cut European road accidents by making cars more visible.
Learners' village 'ban'
Learners' village 'ban' Irate villagers have created merry 'L' after complaining that learner drivers are causing traffic chaos. Motoring schools around Llangunnor, Carmarthen, are being asked by councillors not to use the community's narrow roads for practice. Driving instructors pointed out that they can't actually be banned from the village, but agreed to comply.

Windscreens that never mist up
Something for the future!
Scientists are clearing the way for windscreens that never mist up. Experts at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, US, have discovered a process which makes glass less smooth and reduces condensation build-up. The invention involves a porous coating on the screen with holes 1,000 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair. Water collects in the holes and is evenly distributed across the surface, making it possible to see straight through.
70 per cent of ADIs still to take their HPT
NEARLY THREE QUARTERS of ADIs have not yet taken the Hazard Perception Test under the revised regulations laid down by the Driving Standards Agency last year.
This despite the fact the DSA has made it clear they have no provision to extend the deadline beyond the revised date of 31 December 2006.
When the controversial new regulations were first announced — effectively requiring existing ADIs to retake their Part 1 qualifying exam — the original deadline for December 2005 left only a year for the exam to be taken with just two attempts. Failure to do so would then have meant being struck off the Register automatically. The DSA was forced to perform a hasty U-turn with a revised 2006 deadline and unlimited attempts.

Instructors, don't leave things to the last minute. Get you test booked now!

Bad weather Test cancellations
If your examiner cancels your test due to bad weather, a new test date will be automatically booked for you. Notification of the new test date is normally despatched within 48 hours. If you have not received notification in three working days please call the national number 0870 0101 372 to enquire if the re-booking has been processed.
A letter should have been given to you by your examiner to explain this. Contacting the call centre within the first three days will not speed up the process as the call centre agents will not have the necessary information to assist you.
If you have concerns prior to your test that it may be cancelled due to bad weather please call the number on your appointment letter to enquire, and not the national number.
