Driving Tip of the Month

All about the MOT test

MOT In the UK all cars over three years old are legally required to undergo an annual MOT (Ministry Of Transport) Test.

There are some exceptions to this,
such as taxis, or cars that are used as licensed taxis, which require an MOT Test at one year old, and every year afterwards. Many car owners take advantage of being able to have their car MOT tested one calendar month before the expiry date.
The MOT Test Certificate is not a guarantee of the general mechanical condition or of the roadworthiness of a car. It simply means that on the day of the test the car met the legal requirements needed to pass. More Information

Recall for Vauxhall Corsa D - new model

DSA logo Do you drive a Vauxhall Corsa D or are you planning to take a driving test in one?
Vauxhall is recalling a number of the new Vauxhall Corsa D model vehicles for safety reasons due to a potential steering problem.
The DSA have decided that examiners should not conduct tests in the new Corsa D model affected by the recall until the vehicle has been checked under the warranty arrangements. However, if the vehicle is fitted with dual controls, the test can be conducted. More

10 mph motorway driver given ban
A woman has been banned from driving for seven days after she drove along a motorway at speeds lower than 10mph. Stephanie Cole, 58, of Fishponds, Bristol, repeatedly braked as she straddled the hard shoulder of the M32.

'Frosting Theft' Warning
Motorists are being warned not to leave their cars unattended as it could invalidate their insurance policies in the event of a 'frosting theft'.
The British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) warns that this type of theft often occurs in cold weather.
It involves thieves waiting for a driver to leave his vehicle unattended with keys in the ignition while the windscreen defrosts.
They then jump into the vehicle and drive off before the motorist has a chance to respond.
BIBA has estimated that there have been well over 100,000 of these thefts over the last five years.
