Psychological Assessments for the Driving Test?

Psychological assessments should become part of the UK driving test, a road safety expert has urged. Robert Gifford, director of a road safety charity, told BBC Radio Five Live the current system failed to root out drivers prone to breaking rules.
He said psychometric tests could help to identify people with the wrong attitude to the road.
The call comes as the Driving Standards Agency carries out a review of how people learn to drive. More

A spokesman for the Department for Transport said: "The Driving Standards Agency is conducting a review of driver testing and training and when ministers have had a chance to look at that the proposals will be put out to consultation."
Smoking Ban

no smoking From 1 July 2007 smoking in vehicles used as workplaces will be banned in England. The ban is already in place in Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Although the legislation will only apply to instructors’ vehicles candidates for test need to be aware that if you bring your own vehicle to test it is DSA policy to provide a smoke free working environment for all staff. The examiner may therefore refuse to conduct the test if the vehicle contains tobacco smoke.

Huge driving test scam uncovered
Tens of thousands of people could be paying fraudsters to sit their driving test for them, the BBC has learned. The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) says impostors charge up to £500 and can have taken more than 200 tests each.
The scam works when the fraudsters pass themselves off as the person in the photo on the provisional licence that candidates must bring to their test.
The DSA described the problem, the scale of which has only recently become clear, as serious. More
Driving test cheats escape prison
A former manager of a driving theory test centre has escaped jail after admitting illegally assisting people to pass their tests. The manager and his son, helped candidates at Derby's Mansfield Road theory test centre, the city's Crown Court heard. More
Motorists lose speed camera case
Two British motorists who took their legal fight against speed cameras to Europe have lost their case.
Idris Francis, of Petersfield, Hants, and Gerard O'Halloran, from London, argued that current rules forced car owners to incriminate themselves.
They said human rights were breached by making a car's owner name the driver if the vehicle is caught speeding.
But judges at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg voted 15 to two to reject their argument. More
