Litter louts stubbed out
Drivers throwing cigarette ends from their cars are to be smoked out with the help of the DVLA. Offenders in County Durham face £50 fines from the City Council in the first deal of this kind with the licensing authority. "If a warden sees cigarette litter being thrown from a car, they will take the number and trace the owner to send them a fine," said the council's technical services manager, Andrew Jackson.
