How to Park on Hills When parking, try and do this well away from bends, junctions and hilltops. These are all places where the driver's view is already restricted and parking your car in an unsafe place will increase the danger by focing others on the wrong side of the road.
If your handbrake fails the gear should still hold the vehicle but if all fails, because you have turned your wheel the vehicle will not roll because it will rest on the kerb. Muslim women are having their face veils removed so their identities can be checked before they take driving tests. The move by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) follows a spate of cases in which bogus learner drivers impersonated friends or relatives and took the test for them. Now the DSA has ordered female test examiners to discreetly remove the face veil - or nikab - from Muslim women in a private room along with a female chaperone or interpreter. More |

Road Toll Tax UPDATE from last Month's Newsletter
Tony Blair has written a reply to more than 1.7 million people who signed a petition on the Downing Street website against road pricing. In his reply, the PM sets out the government's views on national road pricing, stressing that no decision has yet been made. Mr Blair says he sees the petition and his email as "the beginning, not the end" of the debate. More Plea to drivers over mobile use The grieving sister of a woman who was killed in a crash caused by a lorry driver using his mobile phone has called for phone use in cars to stop. Motorists who use hand-held mobile phones while driving will now face tougher penalties. The maximum fixed penalty fine has doubled to £60, and three points can be added to offenders' licences. More |||Video News Drink-drive limit could be halved The drink-drive limit could be almost halved and random roadside breath tests introduced, it has emerged. Under the plans, a pint of lager or a large glass of wine would put many motorists over the limit. More Criminal records check for driving instructors Criminal record checks on driving instructors begin next month in order to increase the safety of vulnerable learner drivers. Driving Standards Agency’s Chief Executive Rosemary Thew said the introduction of criminal checks reinforced the rule that instructors should be ‘fit and proper’ people to spend time alone with teenagers.
