Driving Tip of the Month

Practice makes perfect

A wise parent or friend will seek the help of reliable professionals in preparing a person for the complex world of the car and traffic. It's not enough for today's family/friends to learn as their parents did. The driving world they enter is far too intense to tackle without serious preparation.

Practice makes perfect, so when your driving instructor thinks you are ready, why not get more practice with family or a friend. Tips and hints for family and friends helping a person to learn to drive. More

The M42 trial is to be adopted on other motorways

Motorists will be allowed to drive on the hard shoulder of motorways during busy times, Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly has said. FOLLOWING a successful trial on the M42, new ways of managing motorway traffic, including hard shoulder running, will be implemented soon. She said that a more immediate way of cutting congestion was to let drivers use the hard shoulder on parts of the M1, M6, M62, M27, M4 and M5.

Another “barmy” EU directive

New Legislation – for new models of cars and vans from early 2011 and buses and lorries from the summer of 2012 – is aimed at bringing drivers in line with continental counterparts.

MOTORISTS in new cars will have to drive with dipped headlights on during the day even in midsummer under a “barmy” EU directive.

I know you don't believe it but it's true!

Tests Fees Increase

DSA logo Theory tests for car drivers and motorcycle riders from 1 April will be £30 while practical tests for car drivers will be £56.50 from that date.
When the new, more demanding, practical motorcycle test is introduced on 29 September, the fee for that test will be £80. A new off-road part is being introduced to the test before riders will be allowed to progress to the on-road element, which requires a new network of test centres to be constructed.
