Turn in the Road - 3 point turn

Driving test changes from 4th December 2017
NOTE:- The Car driving test in England, Scotland and Wales will change from Monday 4 December 2017. The ‘reverse around a corner’ and ‘turn-in-the-road’ manoeuvres will no longer be tested, but it's important that you still learn how to do these and your instructor should still teach you. Find out more about changes to the practical driving test

The purpose of the turn in the road manoeuvre is to turn the car to face the opposite direction by diagonally pulling forwards and reversing backwards across the road.

At this stage in the programme you should have mastered all the component skills that make up this manoeuvre namely; the angle start, reversing to the left and reversing to the right.

The key to this manoeuvre is quick hands, slow feet – fast steering and slow speed via good clutch control.
