Driving Test Cancelled in the UK for 3 Months
Theory tests cancelled for 4 weeks
Due to the unfolding COVID-19 situation, the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency), the people who run the driving tests, have suspended driving tests for up to 3 months from 21 March 2020 as there is extended contact between candidates and examiners in vehicles. Other tests are also being suspended.
The news come after the Theory Tests had already been cancelled for 4 weeks until Monday 20 April 2020.
However, these dates could change again because of the uncertainty of the situation.
Tests cancelled includes:-
Tests are available for critical workers
These include:
If you are a critical worker and in need of an emergency theory test,
email: covid19essentialworkerstheorytest@dvsa.gov.uk
For emergency driving tests,
email: covid19essentialworkersdrivingtest@dvsa.gov.uk
If your Theory Test Certificate is due to run out
Legally, your theory test certificate cannot be extended in any circumstances. Therefore if your theory test certificate, which is valid after 2 years after taking the test runs out within the 3 months, unfortunately, you will have to sit the test again.
You will need to book and pay to take another theory test.
You need to pass this before you can book your driving test.
What DVSA is doing
They will get in touch with everyone with a test booked during this time to let them know the test has been suspended and that they will automatically re-book for them.
In addition, all theory tests have been cancelled until Monday 20 April 2020 and refunds will be issued.
Out of pocket expenses
If your Driving test has been suspended with less than 3 days notice, you and your instructor will be able to claim out-of-pocket expenses.
Things Could Get Worse
The DVSA will be monitoring the emerging situation and they will let us know if they need to cancel any more tests in the future.
